Re Fibre Type
Is it a shock that the body can adapt to demand?
Dr.
As a sprint coach, I was counting on it! As for the motor neurons, they can be made more effective by lowering their electrical resistance by heating them through increased local blood supply (capillary density). This is why, perhaps counter-intuitively, 65% of our running volume was low intensity.
As well as enhancing capillary density, this interspersing of low intensity training allowed the volume and frequency of high intensity work to be lowered to level that could allow for the continual, and, ultimately, extreme intensification that could bring these changes about.
Best Wishes
