          RA Kartini was a prominent Indonesian national heroine who is widely known for her advocacy for women's education and rights. She was born on April 21, 1879, in Jepara, a small town on the north coast of Java, Indonesia, during the Dutch colonial era.

          Kartini was the daughter of a Javanese aristocrat, who was the regent of Jepara, and a Javanese noblewoman.

          She was the fifth child of the family and was given the name Raden Ajeng Kartini.
